Financial Management Unit

The Financial Management unit plays a fundamental role in the planning, control and monitoring of the financial resources required to support the Institute’s research activities. Its primary mission is to ensure efficient, transparent and fully compliant financial management, thereby supporting the sustainability of both research projects and the Institute’s core operational activities.

The unit is responsible for coordinating budgeting activities, accounting management and financial control, providing support to both researchers and administrative units. It also acts as a key liaison with public and private funding bodies, ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements and contributing to the proper execution of research projects.

Its work is essential for optimising the use of available resources, identifying potential deviations and facilitating strategic decision-making based on reliable and up-to-date financial information.

Functions

The main functions are:

• Planning, execution and monitoring of the Institute’s budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of available resources.
• Accounting management of income and expenditure associated with both research projects and the Institute’s core operational activities.
• Processing of payments, management of advance payments, and preparation of financial reports and justifications for public and private funding bodies.
• Continuous financial monitoring of research projects, identifying budget deviations and proposing corrective measures where necessary.
• Support for internal and external audit processes, while ensuring compliance with current financial and economic regulations.
• Management of procurement requests and monitoring of expenditures charged to the budget lines associated with the different research project.
