Medical and Surgical Innovation Associated Group

The group focuses on the application of technology to the study of advanced life support in patients with severe multiorgan diseases and on the development of new mechanical ventilation strategies. Research activities also include the analysis of acute haemorrhage using thromboelastographyy, to reduce bleeding and to minimise the use of blood product transfusions. In addition, the group has incorporated ultrasound into both intraoperative and immediate postoperative patient care to assess haemodynamic instability and facilitate prompt diagnosis, enabling the rapid implementation of appropriate therapeutic interventions.

All scientific activities conducted by the Medical and Surgical Innovation group are directly aimed at improving patient outcomes and generating benefits for society.

Collaborations

The Medical and Surgical Innovation group collaborates closely with the New Therapies Research group through the incorporation of computer-assisted analysis for the treatment of facial deformities and for the diagnosis and management of dysphagia. The group also contributes to the development of prognostic tools for chronic hepatitis, acute lung injury and acute kidney injury associated with sepsis.
