1. Clinical Excellence: Comprehensive and Multidisciplinary Care

Care for oncohematological patients at FJD is structured around five core pillars: dedicated outpatient clinics, the day hospital for ambulatory care, the inpatient ward, the home hospitalization program (HADA), involving two specialists with advanced training, and the integrated diagnostic unit. Patients transition across these services according to their needs and the course of their disease.

Advanced practice nurses and hematologists, in coordination with other subspecialists at the center (neurologists, cardiologists, intensivists, dermatologists, surgeons, geriatricians, endocrinologists, and rehabilitation specialists—see RHeNutrir program), provide tailored care and treatment at every stage.

Main clinical teams are organized around key disease areas: gammopathies (myeloma and amyloidosis), lymphoproliferative syndromes, myelodysplastic syndrome and acute leukemias, chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms, thrombotic and bleeding disorders, myeloid neoplasm with germline predisposition, and genetic counseling.

2. Transplantation and Advanced Therapies

The cellular therapy program is endorsed by internationally recognized organizations such as JACIE and CAT. The hematopoietic stem cell transplantation program is fully implemented and includes autologous and allogeneic transplants (matched, haploidentical, and unrelated donors).

Our service is also qualified to process and administer CAR-T and TILs/TCR cell therapies, both within clinical trials and the private sector.

Patients requiring CAR-T therapy as part of standard clinical practice are referred to nationally designated centers. After the initial close-monitoring phase, they return to FJD for continued follow-up of their hematologic condition.

3. Clinical Trials

FJD’s Hematology Service integrates the inclusion of patients—both local and referred from across Spain—into clinical trials as part of routine care. Trials range from early-phase (first-in-human) to large phase 3 randomized studies, promoted by the pharmaceutical industry and cooperative groups (GELTAMO, GEM, PETHEMA, among others).

We are also actively involved in managing patients with solid organ tumors included in cellular therapy trials. Each year, approximately 80 patients are treated through clinical trials. The dedicated care team includes trained physicians, specialized nursing staff, coordinators, and data managers.

4. Integrated Hematologic Diagnostics Unit

The cytomorphology, flow cytometry, molecular biology, and hematologic cytogenetics laboratories, in close collaboration with the Pathology Department, work in a coordinated and integrated manner to provide accurate diagnoses that support optimal therapeutic decisions.
All cutting-edge techniques required for the proper diagnosis and management of hematologic malignancies have been implemented.

5. Education, Ongoing Training, and Professional Development

As part of an academic institution, the Hematology Service at FJD is deeply committed to medical education—not only for undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, but also for medical residents (MIR) in Hematology and other specialties, who are trained annually by our most experienced specialists. Additionally, a year-round schedule of scientific sessions ensures continuous updates on key diagnostic and therapeutic advances.

6. Quality, Healthcare Networks, and Humanization

The service holds prestigious accreditations such as JACIE, CAT, and QOPI. It is also part of the Spanish Bone Marrow Donor Registry (REDMO) and has received several "Best in Class" awards.

FJD’s Hematology Service leads a high-complexity oncohematology network that includes other publicly funded hospitals within the Quirónsalud group in the Madrid region. This shared-care model enhances overall patient management, resource optimization, and the development of necessary super-specialization.

The patient plays a central role in this model. From PROMs and PREMs programs, shared decision-making, and risk-adjusted care (CARE project), to psychological support for patients and families, continuity of care, home assistance, and the development of digital tools that enable more fluid, effective communication—every aspect is geared toward more humane and efficient healthcare delivery.

In summary, the Hematology Service at FJD successfully combines clinical excellence, therapeutic innovation, high-level research, and education, all through a patient-centered approach supported by leading multidisciplinary teams.
