Neuro-oncology Unit
The Neuro-oncology team at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz and its affiliated hospitals treats primary tumors of the central nervous system and collaborates with the corresponding subspecialized units in the management of brain metastases.
We offer the most advanced treatment options in surgery, molecular studies of lesions, radiotherapy, and medical treatment.
Treatment options for each case are discussed at the multidisciplinary meeting of the 4H network, which includes medical and radiation oncologists, neuroradiologists, neuropathologists, and neurosurgeons.
The surgical option is always oriented to the goal of achieving the maximum safe resection. To maximize resection, we use high-field intraoperative MRI-guided surgery, fluorescence-guided surgery, and navigated ultrasound. To ensure safety, surgeries are carefully planned using tractography and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, with the patient awake in appropriate cases.
Biopsied tumors are analyzed using molecular panels tailored to brain tumors for precise classification and selection of therapeutic targets when applicable.
Cranial radiotherapy uses the most advanced planning and personalised dosimetry options, including the option of fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy, and we benefit from collaboration with the proton therapy center.
Medical treatment combines standard options with those offered through the clinical trials unit, and leverages the precision of molecular studies to expand treatment options as much as possible.
