The Hospital Pharmacy Service ensures the right medication for each person's needs, according to the doctor's prescription. We buy medicines from pharmaceutical laboratories, store them under the required conditions, and prepare them so the patient can always check what he/she is taking, the batch number and the expiration date. We also prepare magistral, sterile and non-sterile formulas to meet certain specific needs.

The Pharmacy Service has adapted to advances in drug treatment, as well as to new technologies and the digitalisation of healthcare.

We dispense medicines for all pathologies treated at Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital, both for inpatients and those who are being treated at the Day Hospital or whose medicines are administered outside externally (outpatients). Some examples of these diseases are: Hepatitis, HIV infection, multiple sclerosis, severe asthma, onco-haematological diseases in general.

This Pharmacy Service is organised into areas of activity:

  • Management: Acquisition of medicines and their storage.
  • Outpatient pharmaceutical care.
  • Research support: clinical trials.
  • Prepare treatments to be administered in the day hospital.
  • Prepare parenteral nutrition
  • Medication information for all patients who so request and for healthcare professionals.
  • Dispense medications to inpatients in single doses (the treatment prescribed each day for each patient).
  • Pharmacovigilance: we receive information about suspected adverse drug effects and report them to the health authorities.
