Neurosurgery

Diseases treated:

Cranial pathology:

• General Neuro-oncology (primary tumours, metastases, pituitary tumours, meningiomas, vestibular schwannomas, skull base tumours, spinal tumours).
• Familial neuro-oncology (referral centre for Von Hippel-Lindau disease and Neurofibromatosis 1 and 2).
• Skull Base Surgery (Skull Base Unit, mixed Neurosurgery-ENT).
• Functional neurosurgery, in collaboration with the Abnormal Movements Unit (Neurology) (deep brain stimulation in dystonia, Parkinson's disease, microvascular decompression in trigeminal neuralgia).
• Epilepsy (epilepsy surgery programme, part of the Epilepsy Unit).
• Vascular pathology (cerebrovascular accidents, arteriovenous malformations, aneurysms, cavernomas, dural fistulas), in collaboration with Interventional Neuroradiology and ICU.

Traumatic brain injuries.

• Infections (abscesses, empyemas).
• Cerebrospinal fluid disorders (hydrocephalus, pseudotumour cerebri, CSF fistula).

Spinal pathology:

• Degenerative spine (herniated disc, canal stenosis).
• Fractures (acute, osteoporotic, pathological).
• Spinal tumours (intramedullary, intradural, extradural, vertebral).

Peripheral nerve pathology:

• Carpal tunnel syndrome.
• Ulnar nerve entrapment syndrome.
• Peripheral nerve-dependent tumours.

Paediatric neurosurgery:

• Craniosynostosis.
• Paediatric Neuro-oncology.
